New Hampshire’s Cohos Trail

The Cohos Trail

A relatively new long-distance hiking trail, first envisioned in the late 1970s and opened in the 2000s, the Cohos Trail traverses a 170-mile long route between Crawford Notch in the White Mountains to the New Hampshire/Canada Border in Pittsburg, NH. Along the way the trail travels through a number of different areas including the southern Presidential Range, the Kilkenny Ridge, Nash Stream, Dixville Notch, and the Connecticut Lakes Region. The trail includes the peaks of several of NH’s 4000-footers, along with climbs through the mountains of the north country. It is not all mountains though, with much of trail following old logging and farming roads or traveling through large bog and wetland systems. A side benefit is an almost guaranteed moose sighting while you are in the North Country!
