The Adirondack’s Northville-Placid Trail

The NOrthville-Placid Trail

Traversing the heart of New York’s Adirondack Park, the 138-mile long Northville-Placid Trail travels through some of the the Park’s most remote wilderness areas on a route that features many lakes, ponds, streams and wetlands, but no major peaks. Completed in 1927, the trail from Northville in the south to Lake Placid in the north. Along much of the the way the trail follows long river valleys that run north/south through the mountains. The trail also passes through the West Canada Lakes Wilderness where on many days, you are more likely to run across a loon than another person. The trail runs through the village of Piseco and comes close to the villages of Blue Mountain Lake and Long Lake, which all offer the opportunity for a short break and a resupply. The trail also offers some amazing spots to enjoy a swim along the way.

Looking for an idea of what a thru-hike of the Northville-Placid Trail would be like? In August of 2020, Moe and Jeff completed an NPT northbound thru-hike in 10 days. This video captures much of that experience and should give you a good idea of what you’ll see and experience along the way. Of course, every thru-hike is different, but this is a great place to start!
